Scout Camping & Cooking Competition

This weekend the Scout Camping & Cooking competition was attended by 40 scouts from 6 troop across Keighley. A fantastic time was had by all and the entire team of leaders was impressed with the quality of camping and of scouting that was taking place!

The event took place on David Gallagher’s field in Utley and the event organisers would like to thank him once again for his generous support of scouting in Keighley!

For the cooking competition:

                1st: 23rd Keighley (St Annes) – Patrol 5

                2nd: 14th Keighley (Haworth) – Patrol 1

                3rd: 6th Keighley (Oakworth) – Team 6

For the camping competition:

                1st: 6th Keighley (Oakworth) – Patrol 6

                2nd: 23rd Keighley (St Annes) – Patrol 5

                3rd: 6th Keighley (Oakworth) – Team 3

We also had two supported team entered in the competition this year, most of whom were new to the scout section with some older members and explorers to help them out. We applaud their effort and eagerness to take part! “2nd place” Points have been awarded to the winners of the supported event; this has been listed under the camping column in the league table, in recognition of their achievement. The winners of the assisted Camping & Cooking competition 2011 are:

However, these weren’t the only trophies which have changed hands. The Challenge pegs were won from St Annes in a welly wanging challenge by 1st Silsden scouts. They have since been challenged by Ingrow to a sports extravaganza to determine who will take them next. Remember…any scout troop can challenge for the pegs at any time and the challenge must be accepted. Only a team who has just lost the pegs may not challenge their defeaters within a month of their loss.

The Quiz trophy has also been awarded this weekend. Whilst we didn’t hold a “Scout Quiz” competition, and the points haven’t been loaded on the league table for it, the trophy was awarded to the team who came 1st in the mental quiz and physical challenge portion of the weekends activity.

Finally from me, a HUGE thank you and a B-R-A-V-O must go out to the team in charge of the event this weekend: Jez (in charge of the ‘camping’); time (in charge of the ‘cooking’) and Maz (in charge of the ‘programmed activities’). A huge amount of work went in and the event wouldn’t have happened without their input, so very well done!

Scout Shuffle

Huge congratulations to all those who took part in todays shuffle, it was a fantastic event!

Thanks go to everyone who helped to make the day happen, especially to James Hudson who did a fab job of organising the event!

The 2010 Keighley Scout Gang Show took place in the last week of November and once again provided 4 memorable performances.  The cast of 43 Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and Network were watched by the Lord Mayor of Bradford and the Keighley Town Mayor as well as the Scouting county and regional commisioners.

Producer Daniel Mosby said "As always the aim of our show is to give as many young people as possible the chance to be on stage, make friends and icnrease their confidence.  I am incredibly proud of each of our cast members who have shows just how amazing they all are.  I would also like to thank all the adults who put so much work into enablign the young people to get on stage.
